U.S. Cattle & Hogs Production Update – Oct ’14
According to USDA, U.S. commercial red meat production totaled 3.96 billion pounds in Sep ’14, up 7.8% MOM on a daily average basis from the 3.80 billion pounds produced in Aug ’14 and up 0.6% YOY from the 3.94 billion pounds produced in Sep ’13. ’13-’14 YTD U.S. red meat production finished down 2.8% YOY, which was the largest YOY annual percentage decline in ten years. ’13-’14 YTD red meat production of 47.90 billion pounds fell to an eight year low.
Pork – Production up Significantly MOM but Finishes ’13-’14 Season Down 0.7%
U.S. pork production increased significantly MOM in Sep ’14, up 10.4% on a daily average basis from the relative low experienced in Aug ’14. Sep ’14 total production of 1.87 billion pounds was up 1.6% YOY but down 2.4% vs. the previous five year average September pork production. ’13-’14 YTD U.S. pork production finished down 0.7% YOY, which was the first annual decline in four years.
Beef – Production up MOM but Lower on YOY Basis, Finishes ’13-’14 Season Down 4.7%
U.S. beef production increased 5.5% MOM on a daily average basis in Sep ’14 but production remained lower on a YOY basis. Sep ’14 total production of 2.07 billion pounds was down 0.3% YOY and down 4.2% vs. the previous five year average September beef production. ’13-’14 YTD U.S. beef production finished down 4.7% YOY, which was the largest annual percentage decline in ten years.
