Chinese Dairy Imports Update – Apr ’15
According to GTIS, Mar ’15 total Chinese dairy import volumes remained weak, finishing down 39.1% YOY. Total Chinese dairy import volumes have declined YOY for seven consecutive months at an average rate of 31.0% over the period. Mar ’15 total Chinese import volumes also remained below three year average volumes for the month of March, finishing 18.5% lower. Total dairy import volumes did increase 5.8% MOM on a daily average basis, however the February – March increase was significantly below the ten year average February – March seasonal increase of 21.2%.
Mar ’15 Chinese milk powder imports also remained weak, declining on both a YOY and MOM basis. Mar ’15 whole milk powder (WMP) imports finished down 66.9% YOY and 32.6% MOM on a daily average basis while skim milk powder (SMP) imports finished down 46.9% YOY and 19.3% MOM on a daily average basis. WMP and SMP import volumes remained below three year average volumes, finishing 51.4% and 30.9% lower, respectively.
