U.S. Ethanol Export Destinations Update – Mar ’16
2015 U.S. ethanol exports of 835.6 million gallons remained fairly flat on a YOY basis, increasing by just 1.1 million gallons, or 0.6%. U.S. ethanol export volumes to Canada declined significantly, finishing 25.7% below the previous year; however YOY increases in U.S. ethanol exports shipped to China, Oman and South Korea more than offset the declines in Canadian imports.
U.S. ethanol exports destined to Canada accounted for 40% of total U.S. exports during 2014. Other major destinations for U.S. ethanol exports during 2014 included Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines and India. The aforementioned countries accounted for nearly 75% of total U.S. ethanol exports throughout the year.
Canada remained the largest destination for U.S. ethanol exports throughout 2015, although the Canadian market share of total U.S. ethanol exports declined by 10% vs. 2014 figures. China, Oman and Peru finished within the top ten destinations for U.S. ethanol exports during 2015 while the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia and Jamaica fell out of the top ten importing markets throughout the year.
U.S. ethanol export volumes destined to China increased most significantly YOY during 2015, followed by export volumes destined to Oman, South Korea, Peru and the Netherlands. Significantly YOY declines in U.S. ethanol export volumes destined to Canada and the United Arab Emirates were exhibited.
