Planting Progress Update – 9/6/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Sep 4th.
Corn:
Nearly three quarters of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Sep 4th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures declined slightly from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to previous year figures.
With corn dough 96% completed through the week ending Sep 4th, attention turns to denting figures. Corn denting stood at 76% during the week ending Sep 4th, up from 71% experienced during the previous year and a five year average figure of 69%. 18% of corn has matured through the week ending Sep 4th, up from 17% experienced during the previous year but down from the five year average figure of 20%.
Soybeans:
73% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Sep 4th, with 20% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were unchanged from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 63% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
With soybean pod setting 97% completed through the week ending Sep 4th, attention turns to leaf drop figures. 12% of soybeans have dropped leaves during the week ending Sep 4th, down from 15% experienced during the previous year consistent with the five year average figure of 12%.
