Weekly Railroad Service Report Update – 2/12/15
The Surface Transportation Board (STB) published the 17th weekly service report update for Class 1 railroads spanning data acquired from February 1st to February 7th. Overall, ethanol and grain transportation speeds declined while weekly held cars were mostly lower.
Ethanol Transportation:
• Average train speeds for ethanol transportation declined 6.1% week-over-week to 20.9 MPH. Ethanol train speeds remain 5.8% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago but were 0.5% lower than the previous 16 week average ethanol train speeds.
• Ethanol cars held 48-120 hours declined 14.0% week-over-week off of the four week high experienced in the prior week. Ethanol cars held 48-120 hours remain 12.9% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago but were 13.8% lower than the previous 16 week average cars held 48-120 hours.
• Ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours increased 33.6% week-over-week to a four week high. Ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours were 33.2% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago and 4.3% higher than the previous 16 week average cars held longer than 120 hours.
Grain Transportation:
• Average train speeds for grain transportation declined 1.6% week-over-week to 21.4 MPH, a six week low. Grain train speeds remain 3.2% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago and 2.5% higher than the previous 16 week average grain train speeds.
• Grain cars held 48-120 hours declined 22.3% week-over-week off of the four week high experienced in the prior week. Grain cars held 48-120 hours remain 33.9% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago but were 14.7% lower than the previous 16 week average cars held 48-120 hours.
• Grain cars held longer than 120 hours declined slightly week-over-week, falling 1.1%. Grain cars held longer than 120 hours remain 12.2% higher than the initial data point released 16 weeks ago but were 5.8% lower than the previous 16 week average cars held longer than 120 hours.
