Planting Progress Update – 10/17/16
According to USDA, corn and soybean conditions remained favorable to previous year levels through the week ending Oct 16th while harvest paces remained behind previous years.
Corn:
74% of the corn crop remained in good or excellent condition during the week ending Oct 16th, with 19% of the corn crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly improved from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 68% of the corn crop was identified as good or excellent.
The corn harvest stood at 46% completed through the week ending Oct 16th, behind the previous year’s harvest pace of 54% and the five year average pace of 49%.
An additional 11% of the total U.S. corn crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 16th. Weekly increases in the corn crop harvest on a percentage basis were led by Idaho, followed by Minnesota and Washington.
Soybeans:
74% of the soybean crop was deemed good or excellent during the week ending Oct 16th, with 19% of the soybean crop identified as fair. These figures were slightly improved from the previous week and remain favorable when compared to the previous year, when only 64% of the soybean crop was identified as good or excellent.
The soybeans harvest stood at 62% completed through the week ending Oct 16th, behind the previous year’s harvest pace of 73% and the five year average pace of 63%.
An additional 18% of the total U.S. soybean crop was harvested during the week ending Oct 16th. Weekly increases in the soybean crop harvest on a percentage basis were led by Ohio, followed by Wisconsin and Minnesota.
