Railroad Service Report Update – Jul ’18
Weekly service report updates for Class 1 railroads provided by the Surface Transportation Board (STB) were recently updated with values spanning through the end of Jun ’18. Overall, total cars online remained higher on a YOY basis while grain and ethanol rail transportation speeds finished lower.

- Jun 30th week ending total railcars online totaled 1.054 million, finishing 0.3% above the previous week and reaching a three month high overall. Total railcars online also remained higher on a YOY basis for the 80th consecutive week, finishing up 1.7%.

- Jun 30th week ending average train speeds for grain transportation remained lower on a YOY basis for the 26th time in the past 27 weeks. Jun 30th week ending grain train speeds of 21.2 MPH finished 5.0% lower YOY and 5.2% below historical average grain train speeds.

- Jun 30th week ending average train speeds for ethanol transportation also finished lower on a YOY basis for the 26th time in the past 27 weeks. Jun 30th week ending ethanol train speeds of 21.2 MPH finished 8.8% lower YOY and 7.1% below historical average ethanol train speeds.
