U.S. Dairy Product Production Update – Aug ’20
Executive Summary
U.S. dairy product production figures provided by the USDA were recently updated with values spanning through Jun ’20. Highlights from the updated report include:
- Jun ’20 U.S. butter production continued to decline seasonally while finishing lower on a YOY basis for the first time in the past five months, down 3.1%.
- U.S. cheese production increased 3.5% YOY, reaching a record high seasonal level, while dry whey production increased on a YOY basis for the tenth time in the past 11 months, finishing up 2.9%.
- Combined production of U.S. nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder declined 1.0% on a YOY basis during Jun ’20, finishing lower for the first time in the past 12 months and reaching a three year low seasonal level. Nonfat dry milk production declined 7.1% YOY throughout the month, more than offsetting a 17.7% YOY increase in skim milk powder production.
